Favorite TileBest Glazed TileBowl |
This tile is my favorite because of the texture on the tree trunk. The design began as a series of lines that eventually took the shape of a tree. The different glazes (matte - yellow, and glossy - brown and green) bring out the different textures and give the piece unity. Though the colors are separated by a simple brown line -- branches-- the piece seems to flow together. I really enjoyed designing the tree. This is my best glazed tile. Though only one glaze was used I really like the different shines that came out to give the piece more texture, Had the glaze been a single brown tone, it would not be nearly as neat. I like that the different elevations have different tones on them making them appear even closer or sharper. I used many different elements of art such as lines, texture, shapes, and even space. For lines I have straight lines from the center to the petals, curved lines along the petals and leaves, and wavy lines to form the leaves around the base. The texture along the interior and exterior are created by lines to add to the overall natural flower look. The shapes used involve triangles for both the leaf base and the petals around the exterior. Space is shown by the overlapping petals and the distance of the bowl between the leaves and petals. The principles used in this piece include balance, rhythm, proportion, and unity. The piece has balance among the two leaves, one on each side, and the petals surrounding. The rhythm is shown through the multiple petals surrounding the bowl while the proportion is shown in the contrasting size of the leaves and petals. The overall unity shows a sunflower in full bloom. I think the work was successful in executing the image I was going for. I think the colors mesh well and work together to create a natural flower. I also think the leaves as the base added a nice touch to the flower. |
Mug
For my mug, I used a few elements of art such as texture, line, forms, and space. Texture is used on the mountains with the glaze and bubbles. Lines are used along the mountains sides, the handle, and to differentiate the “snowy peaks” from the rest of the mountain. Forms are used with every mountain, created from a 3D triangle and then layered over one another. This allows for space. You can tell that the mountains are meant to be behind one another from the layering and space. Some principles used are balance, and unity. The mug has an overall balance because of the sameness amongst all of the mountains, and the mountain scene creates an overall feeling of unity. The piece just shows serenity and calmness. I think the work flows together well, despite the uneven glazing. The mug was intended to be smooth though it did not turn out this way, I think the piece is still well done. I like the end result of my mug.
